Food Safety Tips

🍛🐾 Keep human food out of reach such as chocolate, onions, garlic, and grapes. Here are the reasons behind this. Chocolate: Cats can't properly metabolize theobromine and caffeine found in cocoa which could affect their hearts, central nervous system, and kidneys which could cause vomiting, tremors, seizures, or death.

Onions: They contain n-propyl disulfide and other sulfur compounds that damage red blood cells, which leads to hemolytic anemia, which is where cells rupture and can't carry oxygen, causing weakness, vomiting, and potential death.

Garlic: Garlic contains thiosulfates like n-propyl disulfide that damages their red blood cells much like the onions and has the same consequences as onions.

Grapes: Grapes are toxic to both cats and dogs just like chocolate. They can cause kidney failure that is sudden and severe, even in small amounts.

General Safety Tips

🪟🐾 Secure your windows and screens. As every cat owner knows, cats love fresh air. It can be beautiful but also dangerous and can cause serious falls.

🧵🐾 Hide strings and smaller objects. Cats love to chew smaller objects along with stuff like phone charges, hair ties, yarn, and rubber bands can be dangerous if swallowed.

🧽🐾Keep cleaning supplies away even the natural cleaning supplies you use can be harmful.

🪴🐾 Cat safe house plants. There are many toxic plants and cats love to chew on plants that could be toxic such as Lillies, Sago Palm, Oleander, Azaleas, Tulips, Daffodils, Jade Plant, Pothos, and Philodendrons.

🧼🐾 Make sure to check certain appliances before use such washers, dryers, ovens, fire places and even under reclining chairs. Cat’s love to hide in smaller places to make themselves feel more secure and warmer areas.

💊🐾 Make sure to put any medication or pills in safer places or locked away for obvious reasons everyone should know.

🕯️🐾 Please make sure to watch for candle and cord safety open flames and damaging cords can lead to horrible accidents to cat parents.

🐁🐾 Provide a safe environment of enrichment for your cat like scratching posts, toys, and climbing walls not to mention The Jade Projects favorite to give a shot if you haven’t yet we strongly suggest to get a catio especially if you have indoor cats.

💞🐾 Remember a little awareness goes a long way in keeping your animals safe and don’t be afraid to share this especially to people who need it. Here at The Jade Project we are passionate about spreading this awareness through The Jade Project because every cat deserves a safe, enriching, and loving home. Don’t be afraid to pass on this knowledge you never know whose cat this can save.
